How much experience do you have in the transport industry?
Over 32 years. Paul Camilleri Express - now P One Express Group trading as Camex Transport Services - started transport operations in 1985.
What sort of transport do you specialise in?
Camex specialise in transporting: sawn timber, steel products, pre-cast concrete, general freight, portable and oversize building sections and shipping container units. We also offer secure short-term storage and overnight truck-layover solutions. We are mainly engaged in third party logistics (3PL). We have a strict "no trucks left unattended on suburban streets" policy.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU TRANSPORT?

WHY IS THERE A LEOPARD IN YOUR LOGO?
The leopard is known for its agility, adaptability and extraordinary carrying capabilities - often transporting prey more than twice its own weight over great distances. Leopards have shorter muscular legs, a longer body and a bigger head than other cats. Black (so called) phantom cats (the rare melanistic form of the Panthera family of cats) have become synonymous in legends around Western Sydney - which is where Camex Transport Services are based.
What types of vehicles do you have?
Camex have semi-trailer trucks, ridged trucks and a utility vehicle with a crane. Our capabilities are summarised on the Services page.
Do YOU DO back-loads?
Yes we do. Camex is always looking for back loads within our operating area.
ARE YOUR PRIME-MOVERS INSURED TO TOW OUR TRAILERS?
Yes our prime movers are insured to tow trailers owned by other parties.
WHY DO YOU USE LOAD STABILISERS?
Load stabilisers are used to reduce the risk of a load sliding, slipping, shifting or moving during transportation. Camex use load stabilisers that are anchored to the chasis of the truck - this provides a safer way to transport certain loads such as scaffolding, timber and steel.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FTL AND LTL?
Confusingly, FTL "full truck load" and LTL "less than full truck load" are terms used to indicate one or both the following:
- Physical capacity: the complete or partial utilisation of a vehicle – by its safe volume or weight capacity.
- Service offering: the purpose or exclusivity of the service being provided.
The physical capacity of a vehicle is self explanatory. With respect to the service offering:
- FTL can imply exclusive use of a vehicle providing services for a single customer.
- LTL can imply non-exclusive use of a vehicle providing services for one or more customers.
Camex offer FTL and LTL services regardless of how you want to define what they are.
WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON USING SYDNEY'S TOLL ROADS?
History has shown that it is better value for our customers if we use the toll roads in Sydney:
- We do not mark-up toll road charges – they are simply passed on or incorporated into the costs of the service.
- Documentation to support toll road charges can be provided when available.
- We can accommodate requests to avoid toll roads and/or to drive to designated routes.
- A detailed GPS journey/trip report for all of our vehicles can be provided**.
** Note: GPS reports can only be shared in cases where there is no compromise to privacy, security or confidentiality arrangements we have with other customers.
HOW ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE TO THE ENVIRONMENT?
We take our environmental obligations seriously. There are many facets to environmental management in our business and the wider transport industry. Environmental responsibility goes way beyond legislative compliance and reduction of waste in all of its forms - it just makes better sense to run our business more efficiently - this benefits customers and the wider community. Environmental responsibility in our business is not just reducing the impact of noise on suburban streets, always looking for back-loads or investing in modern vehicles that are more efficient and have lower emissions.
We drive trucks efficiently and adjust aero-foils and wind deflectors according to the journey conditions and load being carried. Traffic congestion, scheduled road maintenance and construction is monitored and alternate routes are chosen when possible. Ensuring we drive safely, have safe stable loads and conduct pre-journey risk assessments for all oversize loads plays a big part in us reducing the likelihood of any impact on the environment caused by traffic hold-ups, spills or damaged civil infrastructure.
GPS tracking and journey logging systems provide great information to review if a journey is being undertaken efficiently so that improvements can be made in the future. We use toll roads in Sydney and encourage customers to book services outside peak traffic congestion times when it is convenient for them to do so. We don't hide fuel costs - we use a fuel levy (see below) in our costings and communicate this to customers on request so that they are conscious of the fuel use component in our service.
We have invested in technology to be on the look out for back loads and to reduce the amount of documents we print at our depot and in the field. We have a "buy less packaging in the first place" attitude when buying anything from truck parts to our lunch. We use water wisely, energy responsibly and have a sustainable attitude to rubbish and waste management - targeting everything from sorting our office and general waste for recycling, getting our printer ink cartridges refilled to responsibly recycling steel, engine fluids, tyres and vehicles at the end of their useful life.
Underpinning our safety and environmental responsibility is a keen awareness of the impacts of obsolescence and life-cycle management in the transport industry coupled with our attitude that every little bit counts and that processes need to be regularly reviewed to look for improvements.
WHAT IS A FUEL LEVY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Fuel is a significant portion of the total costs associated with providing a road transport service. There are two main variables that impact the fuel cost component of a road transport service:
a. The price of the fuel.
b. The quantity of fuel used.
In relation to these two variables respectively:
a. The market price of fuel itself is typically beyond the control of a supplier or customer

b. The amount of fuel used depends on the service provided
– for example metro/out of metro/interstate, size of the load, length of journey, vehicle used, etc.
A fuel levy can be a fair and transparent way of:
a. Protecting a supplier and a customer from rising and falling fuel costs.
b. Ensuring that fuel use is apportioned relative to the service provided.

Not all invoices include a fuel levy (for example: where a total fixed price for the service, or, a fixed hourly rate for the service has been quoted/agreed). Please contact us if you would like to be sent an information sheet covering details on the fuel levy.
what privacy measures do you have in place?
We only use information provided by our customers for the express purposes of providing a transport service. We do not collect or accumulate data for the purposes of marketing or for sale to any other organisation. Once a financial transaction and/or a business relationship process has commenced there are laws in Australia that govern how long we keep certain information for. Information is held securely and adequate protections are in place - consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We also identify relevant information as COMMERCIAL-IN-CONFIDENCE and include statements about the use of information where it is applicable and appropriate to do so.
